Baby boomers are becoming more technologically aware and, millennials; well, millennials could basically write the book on technology themselves. Technology continues to change the way consumers are targeted, ultimately affecting their purchasing decisions. Technology is a huge factor in consumer behavior in today’s world with millennials slowly overtaking the baby boomer generation as the largest generation with the highest spending power. This transition through innovative technology directly affects all aspects of business, especially advertising and purchasing habits.

With the up rise of online retailers like Amazon taking over the shopping industry, more and more e-commerce platforms and retail sites are being born.

With millennials becoming the largest generation, word-of-mouth and direct mail strategies are becoming obsolete. Technology is becoming more of a promotional factor as baby boomers and millennials, the two strongest generations, grow and prosper in the new age.

Social media is now becoming the “traditional” marketing strategy in business. Businesses can target a much wider array of consumers by incorporating social media marketing into their strategies. The social media applications that are transforming advertising: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and LinkedIn. These marketing mediums are taking over the advertising world and should be utilized to their fullest. Facebook is a great way for businesses to reach the baby boomer generation. Baby boomers use Facebook to reconnect with old friends, make new friends, and stay up-to-date with their kids/grandkids lives.

For the younger generation, like millennials, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter are great applications to reach the younger target markets because they are on said social media applications 24/7. A quick thirty-second ad on Instagram or Snapchat could go a long way. Make a Twitter for your business. Keep followers up-to-date on new products and roll-outs. Have a LinkedIn? Write some post, create some promo videos and share them! Heck, even throw them on Facebook!
