To facilitate full transparency into our process, below is our anticipated timeline for deployment (all times EDT):
- 8:00 am – Begin deployment
- 8:30 am – Initial rollout completed, testing begins
- 10:00 am – Testing finalizes and all sites restored
Q: Why is this downtime necessary? You typically do not take the platform down for your releases.
A: Liftoff is developed using a practice called continuous integration, which, for the most part, allows us to seamlessly deploy new code and features into production. This release is quite different. There are extensive changes to the underlying data model that could cause adverse effects if website traffic was permitted to continue during roll-out.
Q: Is it possible that my sites will be back online before 10:00 am?
A: While it is possible, we want to ensure that we’ve provided our team a large enough window to perform all necessary post-deployment testing along with extensive regression testing on existing sites, especially those of a custom nature. Should the roll-out complete ahead of schedule, an email notifying our subscribers will be sent out accordingly.
Q: Why did you choose this particular date for your deployment?
A: Ahead of setting this schedule, we took an extensive look at platform traffic statistics from a worldwide stance. We found this window to be most optimal from a traffic-bearing standpoint, especially as it relates to the holiday weekend.
